This photo was taken by Gilles Peress in Rwanda, in a hospital near a concentration camp. The child is the focal point of the image, being very clear and sharp, although not placed completely in the center. The background is blurry, but it conveys a lighter tone than the focal figure and therefore, a certain gradation of color renders through the space. The child is placed as facing the viewer, whereas the figures in the background are positioned in profile and thus, a contrast is achieved. Additionally, the central figure appears vertical, interrupting the horizontal arrangement of the background and stressing out the story behind the photo.
